Securing Two of the Isle of Man’s Most Iconic Hotels

The Isle of Man may be a small island in the Irish Sea, but it has earned an international reputation for hospitality. Whether welcoming business travellers, motorsport fans during the TT and Manx Grand Prix, or visitors exploring its stunning coastline and rich heritage, the island’s hotels play a vital role in delivering exceptional guest experiences.

Among them, two properties stand out for very different reasons: The Palace Hotel & Casino, one of the island’s largest and most complex hospitality venues, and The Claremont Hotel, consistently recognised as one of the Isle of Man’s finest luxury hotels.

Although both selected Keystep Solutions to design and install their electronic door locking and access control systems, the similarities ended there. Each property had its own operational challenges, security priorities and guest expectations, requiring a completely bespoke solution.

The Palace Hotel & Casino – Managing Security Across a Multi-Use Hotel

The Palace Hotel & Casino is one of the Isle of Man’s most recognisable hospitality destinations. Overlooking Douglas Bay, the property combines a large hotel with the island’s casino, restaurants, bars, conference facilities, spa, gym and extensive back-of-house operations. With guests, visitors, contractors and staff all moving throughout the building every day, it presented a unique access control challenge.

Securing a property of this scale isn’t simply about fitting electronic locks. Every door has a purpose, every department has different security requirements, and every member of staff needs the appropriate level of access to carry out their role safely and efficiently.

Following a comprehensive site survey, Keystep Solutions mapped every access point throughout the building and designed a layered access strategy tailored specifically to the hotel’s operations.

The project included:

  • Secure electronic locks throughout the guest accommodation.
  • Controlled access for staff across operational and back-of-house areas.
  • Managed entry and exit doors to the property, allowing secure movement while maintaining a welcoming arrival experience for guests.
  • Controlled access to both passenger lifts, ensuring only authorised guests and staff could access designated accommodation floors and preventing unrestricted movement throughout the building.
  • Secure access to the casino, spa, gym and other operational areas, each with its own tailored permission levels.
  • Complete audit trails, providing management with full visibility of who accessed specific areas and when.
  • Flexible credential management, allowing access rights to be updated instantly as staffing or operational requirements changed.

The objective wasn’t simply to make the building secure it was to create an intelligent access control system that protects every part of the property while remaining virtually invisible to guests. Whether arriving at the hotel, entering through the main doors, using the lifts, visiting the leisure facilities or returning to their room, guests enjoy a seamless experience while management benefits from complete control over one of the Isle of Man’s most complex hospitality environments.

The Claremont Hotel – Security That Becomes Invisible

The Claremont presents a very different challenge.

As one of the Isle of Man’s highest-rated luxury hotels, every aspect of the guest experience matters. Guests expect effortless arrivals, seamless room access and discreet service that never interrupts their stay.

In luxury hospitality, the best security system is often the one guests never notice.

For The Claremont, Keystep Solutions delivered an electronic locking system designed around reliability, simplicity and elegance. Staff credentials were carefully planned to support daily operations while protecting guest accommodation and back-of-house areas, allowing the hotel team to focus entirely on delivering exceptional service.

The result is a secure environment that supports the hotel’s reputation without ever becoming part of the guest experience.

No Two Hotels Are Ever the Same

One of the biggest misconceptions about hotel electronic locking systems is that they’re simply a case of replacing old locks with new ones.

In reality, every building tells a different story.

Door constructions vary. Existing lock cases differ. Fire door regulations must be maintained. Operational workflows are unique. Staff movement changes throughout the day, and every hotel has different priorities depending on its layout, facilities and the experience it wants to deliver.

That’s why every Keystep project begins with a comprehensive site survey and risk assessment.

Before a single lock is installed, we work closely with hotel management to understand exactly how the property operates, identify security risks and develop an installation programme that fits around the hotel—not the other way around.

Both Isle of Man installations were completed while the hotels remained fully operational. Every phase of the installation was carefully scheduled to minimise disruption to guests and staff, with every lock, access point and credential fully tested before the systems went live.

More Than Installing Locks

At Keystep Solutions, we don’t simply install electronic door locks.

We design complete access strategies that improve security, simplify hotel operations and enhance the guest experience.

Whether it’s one of the busiest mixed-use hospitality venues on the Isle of Man or one of its most prestigious luxury hotels, our approach remains the same:

  • Understand the building.
  • Understand how people use it.
  • Design the right solution.
  • Install it properly.
  • Support it for years to come.

The Palace Hotel & Casino and The Claremont Hotel demonstrate that there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all access control solution. Every hotel is different, every operation is unique and every project deserves a system designed around the way that property actually works.

Because in hospitality, guests should remember the welcome, the service and the experience—not the key that wouldn’t work.

Keystep Solutions – Delivering intelligent electronic locking and access control systems for hotels where security, reliability and guest experience are equally important.
